Helping children in poverty has always been at our heart, although how we do it has changed over time. What’s been consistent is our desire to ever improve how we make an impact — we’ve fostered a spirit of innovation from the beginning, first as China’s Children Fund, then as Christian Children’s Fund and now as ChildFund International.
We’re still growing and learning, but now we’re doing it under a name that fully reflects the way we’ve always welcomed children and supporters of all nationalities and faiths to change the world through our programs. Here’s how.
Yayasan Soasial Bina Sejahtera (YSBS) activity in cooperation with ChildFund is specifically addressed by one unit of YSBS namely Mino Martani. Here are some ChildFund activity report together with Mino Martani.
MINOMARTANI UNIT ACTIVITY REPORT PERIOD JULY 2015- MARCH 2016
ChildFund Program with Mino Martani Project consists of 3 parts:
- Live Stage Program 1 (for children aged 0-5 years)
- Live Stage Program 2 (for children aged 6-14 years)
- Live Stage Program 3 (for chidren aged 15-24 years)
1. Live stage Program 1 (for children aged 0-5 years); consist of some activities:
a. Regular team meetings SAKTIA (Sehat-Aktif-Kreatif untuk Ibu dan Anak – Healthy-Active-Creative for Mother and Child ) at 5 assisted villages projects
Involved in the team Saktia is Posyandu cadres, village midwives, PAUD (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini – Early Childhood Education) tutor, Keluarga Berencana (Family Planning) field officers, and community leaders. Their job is to be a companion in parenting activities as parents of toddlers, pregnant women and parenting.
This event is held once a month at 5 assisted villages, Wiradadi village and Kalikidang village – Sokaraja subdistrict; Panikel village and Ujunggagak village – Kampung Laut subdistrict and Sidasari village – District of Cipari. Which is actively involved in these activities are as many as 115 people.
b. KBK Training (Group Belajar Keluarga – Family Study Group) for motivator in the pilot project (Ujunggagak village)
This event was attended by 27 parents of children aged 3-5 years, and facilitated by specialists from ChildFund Indonesia.
The purpose of this activity is to provide supplies of science so that they can be a motivator in the activities of the KBK (Group Belajar Keluarga – Family Study Group) so that the parents of toddlers actively involved in the activities together with their children. By involving parents participated learn and play with their children, so that parents are able to do this learning at home for their toddlers.
c. Parenting Tumbuh classes activity for parents of children aged 0-3 years in Posyandu
The activities carried out every two months in each village and facilitated by a team SAKTIA. This event was attended by 398 parents of children aged 0-3 years. This activity aims to provide a space sharing for mothers / caregivers of children aged 0-3 years, in maximizing the development of the child. One of the themes taken in parenting is about the importance of keeping the house clean and the environment. Dengue fever is spread by the bite of Aedes aegypti mosquito that PSN (Pemberantasan Sarang Nyamuk – mosquito nest elimination) is considered most effective to do prevention. Campaign motion 5 M (Menguras, Mengubur, Menutup, Memantau, dan Menindaklanjuti – Draining, Bury, Closing, Monitoring and Follow-up). Each household must examine mosquito larvae in the home, check in the tub, water tank, fridge, dispenser, pot plants, bury scrap items and close the water tank. If a child sleeps at 09.00 am / 10.00 am or 04.00 pm obliged to wear mosquito net / mosquito repellent, because the aedes aegypti mosquitoes usually bite at these hours. From the results of the exposure, the participants agreed parenting will follow up at home and will do 5 M, so protected from dengue fever.
d. Kembang parenting classes activity for parents of children aged 3-5 years in PAUD (Pendidikan Anak Usia Dini – Early Childhood Education)
This activity aims to provide shared space for mothers / caregivers of children aged 3-5 the year in maximizing the development of the child. In any event take a different theme and one theme taken is about intellect. Intellectual intelligence: the ability to learn new skills and concepts, children are invited to understand what is happening in the neighborhood by using memory skills. In this respect the role of parents / caretakers are very influential in giving stimulants to children to remember events that happened with the children everyday, a stimulant that must be provided by parents to children to help optimize memory children in ways often encourage children to communicate and experimenting with everyday activities at home.
The exposure of the participants parenting provides many responses, they try to discuss the little things that often occurs in children with other participants, in essence, the parents have a new understanding of how to provide a stimulant to improve memory kid, one of which they agreed would invite children children to remember the activities that have been done together.
e. Parenting Tumbuh classes activity for pregnant women in five assisted villages
This event is held every two months in each village and followed by 298 pregnant women. This activity is facilitated by a village midwife.
This activity aims to provide a space sharing for pregnant women and their families in preparing for childbirth, during childbirth, and care of the newborn. One of the themes in a class of pregnant women namely: recognizing danger signs in pregnant women. The material is taken from a book of activities KIA, which is owned by every pregnant woman as monitoring the development during pregnancy, during childbirth, and monitor the development of children aged 0-5 years. Participants will Understand parenting pictures shown by the facilitator / team SAKITA about the state of women who need to get a referral. Participants were invited to take turns reading the contents information from the images shown in the book. From the results of data collection at high risk mothers in 5 assisted villages projects as many as 17 of them pregnant with age above 35 years and below 20 years of age. Advice from a team of experts (midwives) at least during pregnancy did check into the health personnel as much as four times, and two times required to conduct an ultrasound to determine the health of the fetus and the mother. During these two years the level of awareness of pregnant women and families eke getting better, 99% of pregnant women are already doing check and delivery by health personnel. Maternal parenting class activities diakhri with the agreement that the members of the family, especially the husband next month are required to be involved in classroom activities expected to be a mother so as SIAGA (Siap Antar Jaga – ready to deliver and guarding) husband.
f. Enrolled health checks for children (children are enrolled in ChildFund) aged 0-5 years in the 5 assisted villages
Inspection activities carried out in each Polindes by the village midwife. This event was attended by 63 children aged 0-5 years. This activity aims to monitor the health of children aged 0-5 years old enrolled in the 5 assisted villages of Mino Martani. From the results obtained the following caption:
- 31 children otherwise healty.
- 16 children otherwise infected ISPA (Infeksi Saluran Pernapasa Atas – Respiratory Diseases)
- 3 children otherwise cavity (caries)
- 7 children otherwise dust allergy so they have cough and cold
- 6 children otherwise malnutrition because their weight bellow the red line
Children who are having problems with her health was referred to a PUSKESMAS (health center) by a midwife village. The team is obligated village SAKTIA monitor treatment outcome in children and report the results to the midwife village. For children who are underweight receive additional food packages from the PUSKESMAS (health center).
2. Live stage 2 program (for children ages 6-14 years)
a. PEMDES (Pemerintah Desa – Village Government) advocacy meetings on Child Protection involving Children’s Forum and BMM
This activity aims to facilitate the process of preparing the child protection policy in Ujunggagak village, Kampung Laut subdistrict, Cilacap.
KPA (Kebijakan Perlindungan Anak – Child Protection Policy) village level and schools draft, tested and publied in the presence of community leaders, the government, the communities (adults & kids element) before it was passed into law the village. In this public test as many as 181 people were involved consisted of 82 parents of enrolled children, 22 enrolled children, and 77 people from community leaders and officials. Of the draft made still no improvement, especially for clauses concerning filial duty and obligation of parents. Then there is the proposal of a participant public test so that the village include regulations on the use of mobile phones, the Internet, and also set about their garden education of children (eg, providing a children’s playground and reading garden to children), provides sanctions for parents who do not support reach out of basic education. The results of this meeting formed drafting team consisting of seven people taken from the government, village leaders, and village stakeholders to test the public and also make improvements draft.
KPA draft has also consulted to the law of Cilacap district before legalized by the Village Head. Results of consultations with the head of the legal department Cilacap district, otherwise Government Area Child Protection Cilacap regency until March 2016 at the Council table and to be immediately validated by the regent. Hopefully in April 2016 could be approved as regional regulations.
b. Training on Child Protection on PEMDES, Stakeholder, Enrolled children and parents of enrolled children
This activity aims to provide an understanding of child protection related to parenting, groups the obligations in the village.
Training in Ujunggagak Village successfully implemented, on October 7, 2015 with the number of participants of 34 people, consisting of 15 people from the comunity, 10 people from parents of enrolled children, 3 enrolled children, and 6 of the local stakeholder. This activity takes the theme of the care and protection of children. Basically that the activities of child protection is our collective responsibility. Adult behavior becomes a mirror of the future of the children who live in the vicinity. If all adults provide good parenting and provide examples of the good life, then the child would be guaranteed to grow into responsible adults. Parenting in the family, neighborhood, and school children, will give a real picture of the future child. If we expect the developed countries, the children are educated emotion with full responsibility, because children are the future of the nation. The results of this training obligation stakeholders are invited to continue to meet the basic needs of children are: The right to life, right of education, rights of participation, and rights of protection.
c. Workshop material on the Child Protection Policy which involves PEMDES, Stakeholder, Enrolled children and non-enrolled
Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pendapat anak-anak di SDN. 01 Ujunggagak tentang isi dari draft Peraturan Perlindungan Anak di sekolah.
Kegiatan konsultasi dengan anak dilaksanakan di SDN 01 Ujunggagak dengan peserta anak kelas 4 dan 5. Konsultasi ini difasilitatori oleh Konsultan KPA, dan diikuti 77 anak (13 diantaranya adalah anak enrolled). Anak-anak dibagi menjadi 8 Group kecil, dan mereka melakukasn diskusi dengan cara menggambar untuk mengungkapkan isue permasalahan yang ada di sekolah dan gambaran solusinya.
Adapun masing-masing Group membahas tentang:
This activity aims to find out the views of children in SDN. 01 Ujunggagak about the content of the draft Regulation of the Protection of Children at the school.
Consultation with the children’s activities at SDN 01 Ujunggagak with participants of 4th and 5th grades. This consultation difasilitatori by KPA Consultants, and was followed 77 children (13 of whom were enrolled children). Children were divided into 8 small groups, and they are do the discussion by drawing to express issues existing problems in school and solution overview.
As each group discusses:
- Group 1 : children discussed about the things that are liked / disliked the male students
- Group 2 : children discussed about the things that are liked / disliked the female students
- Group 3 : children discussed about the rights of children while in school
- Group 4 : children discussed about filial duty
- Group 5 : children draw the future school
- Group 6 : children draw the current school and write things that are liked / disliked for today
- Group 7 : children discussed forms of violence in schools and the solution
- Group 8 : children discussed forms of violence in schools and the solution
The results of the consultation children then elected 16 children from 4th and 5th grades to become the school’s Champion Kids. These children then capacitated with a range of knowledge related to child rights, so hopefully they can help classmates and juniors and other fellow students when they experience difficulties. Champion this child so help the school to oversee the dynamics of students in the schools that sometimes escaped from the supervision of the teacher.
d. Training for Kids Forum & child advocacy enrolled on Child Protection
This activity aims to provide children in advocacy on child protection to stakeholders / public.
The training activities attended by 55 people, consisting of 17 children from the community, 4 persons are parents of enrolled children, 32 enrolled children, and two people from governance. In this training the children are given an understanding of the procedures of expression groups the obligations by the respectful manner and content of the negotiation process to ensure the best interests of the child. Through discussion Group children are invited to create campaigns based on knowledge of children. The results of the training will be followed for the preparation of child protection policies in the Ujunggagak village.
e. The regular meetings Group of enrolled children and their family members to socialize Protection of children at the village level
The meeting was held in 5 assisted villages of Mino Martani with the number of participants who attended as many as 1,219 people, consisting of 1,002 enrolled children, 26 non-enrolled children, 115 parents of enrolled children and 76 community leaders and comunity. This activity aims to campaign about children’s rights. A fundamental right that must be owned by the child is the right to life, growing rights, rights of participation and protection rights. Participants of the meeting discussed about the birth certificate fulfillment of one of the meet rights protection, according to them the deed is a condition of the child to attend school, find a job, and when they will get married. Basically, this understanding is correct, but the facilitators (youth) explains that the birth certificate is a requirement to admit the child to be a citizen of Indonesia legitimate, so that the child’s birth certificate is entitled to protection from the state.
f. Routine activities at art studio, such as Kentongan, Tambourine, Karawitan, Group Integrated Learning in 5 assisted villages
This activity aims to facilitate the children to develop their interests and talents through activities the child studio.
Child workshop activities held in five assisted villages project with duration of 2 times a week. They include Kentongan, Karawitan, Rebana, and Group-level learning Schools. Involved in the activities of the studio as much as 1,427 children, consisting of 847 enrolled children, 571 non-enrolled children and 9 children are siblings of enrolled children. The children were very enthusiastic to follow the activities of the studio, they are glad to meet and joking with their peers. One positive side in the event that the value of friendship between them is getting better, they also get to know their peers from other hamlets, so that their friends multiply. Their solidarity is also higher, they visit each other when friends are old fakum in activities.
g. Aflatoun regular meetings to discuss module 1-8
Definition of aflatoun is saving virtue.
Aflatoun activities conducted at the village Sidasari by the number of 20 participants consisted of 11 enrolled children and non-enrolled children 9. The activities include:
• Understanding of the material according module
• Practice making savings box of cardboard, which then each have one box to save at home each and one Months Ekali opened jointly in the postal service, then saving each child is recorded in a book by the chairman and the overall result is saved in cooperative Mino martini on behalf of one of the team of facilitators.
• Make participant’s identity bracelet
• Make vegetable seeds and seedlings to plant vegetables in polybag and activity center in the post.
h. Infrastructure and environmental studies relating to the school standard of safe and health
This activity aims to reflect the school’s infrastructure is owned by the school, whether to provide security and comfort for the child while at school.
Infrastructure assessment activities facilitated by specialist DRR of ChildFund Indonesia, for six SD (Sekolah Dasar – Elementary School) and two PAUD (early childhood education) in the Panikel and Ujunggagak village.
Results of a study conducted during the following assistance:
- Condition of the field that is in the school yard, the goalkeeper position which is adjacent to the teachers’ room window, very risky because the window would suddenly collapsed due to hit the ball that is played by children.
- Lighting classroom are lacking because there are some teachers who do not get a room the morning sunshine.
- There is no place to store the APE that has been damaged, so the tool is not used left sitting so that could endanger children at play.
- The door is open it out is correct.
- Position the electric power (plugs) in a safe position (not too low).
3. Live Stage Program 3 (for children ages 15-24 years)
a. Peer Group orientation of young leaders in 5 assisted villages project
This activity is used to introduce the children about photography and videography skills application.
Socialization activities performed on tg. 14-15 Nov 2015 at Wisma Soteria Baturraden. The number of participants in this activity as many as 25 children in which each village represents 5 children in this activity. 19 children were enrolled of whom were children and six others are non-enrolled children. The results of this activity the children were asked to practice pengmabilan image and the introduction of tool use camera and handy cam. Result of the agreement the children will practice shooting video in activities happy day in each village.
b. Children’s Forum meeting to talk about the young peer leaders in Zonal level
This activity aims to provide space for the Youth dimitra sahring work ChildFund especially Central Java and Yogyakarta to study the development of youth programs. On 20-22 December 2015 in Semarang followed by five children from their respective representatives assisted villages of Mino Martani. During the meeting, the children learn together about making access to communications along with using the internet. The communication access to Mino mino Martani using FA address Martani. Communication can be done online so it can be used to study together in developing youth programs. In Online Social media can also be used as a tool to campaign for children’s rights and child protection. c. Regular Children’s Forum meeting on the integration of village-level Group of young leaders
This activity is to facilitate children who are members of the Children’s Forum in developing the village to coordinate youth activities in 5 assisted villages projects. Child Forum meeting attended by 218 children, consisting of 117 101 enrolled children and non-enrolled children. In this meeting, the Forum agreed to make a class Children Youth, with the aim of developing activities Children’s Forum. Youth class is the class agreed on Protection of Children and DRR class. Already formed the management of these activities, however, the board is still need to be equipped with facilitation measures. Children also begin to create a training schedule for facilitation techniques.
d. Young peer leaders meeting with village officials / stakeholders for advocacy program
This activity is to facilitate the Children’s Forum, BMM, and GSM Mino Martani staff in coordination with the village authorities for the implementation of activities in this village. This activity held in five assisted villages the project by the number of participants of 91 people consisting of 15 enrolled children, 6 of governance, and 35 parents of enrolled children, and 35 people from the community. This activity resulted in several agreements, among other things:
- Reorganization BMM in 5 villages by side, and that has been done up to the month of March 2016 is stewardship BMM Sidasari village.
- Next year agreed to campaign on the importance of child protection will impact progress technology tool.
- The seminar on Reproductive Health for children aged 16 years and older.
e. Provide scholarship assistance in the form of registration fees or support educational activities
This activity aims to help children’s education, so parents have passion in caring for the children’s education.
Who received scholarship assistance as many as 94 enrolled children received help support education, so that children can follow the 1st semester test smoothly. The average value of child well enough, they can go beyond the KKM so eager to learn increases.
